Frank Pinson, principal of Pepperell Middle School, has
been selected to lead the partnership of the new charter school
in Floyd County. Pinson was named CEO of the Floyd County
Schools College and Career Academy at a called meeting of the
Floyd County Board of Education on Monday, November 19. The
CEO position will act as a liaison between the community partners
responsible for developing the new school. The charter
school is a partnership between Floyd County Schools, Coosa
Valley Technical College and the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. Pinson
will work with school personnel, college leaders, and the Rome
area business community to make sure the charter school is
fulfilling its mission of providing quality educational opportunities
for students, seamless transitions from high school to college
and graduates ready to meet the employment needs of the community.
Pinson was recommended for the CEO position by a subcommittee
of the Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy Steering
Committee. The committee was made up of representatives
from Floyd County Schools, Coosa Valley Technical College,
business representatives of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce,
board members from the Floyd County Board of Education and
parents from the community. The subcommittee unanimously
endorsed Pinson because of his background in education and
experience in private business and his vision for the College
and Career Academy. In his interview, Pinson told
the group, “CEO means chief executive officer to most
people but for me it means coordinator of educational opportunities – that’s
how I would see myself in this position.”
Pinson
has been principal of Pepperell Middle School since 2001 and
also served four years as assistant principal for the school. He
taught and served as head football coach at Pepperell High
from 1977 to 1980. He spent ten
years working in private business before returning to Pepperell
High School in 1991. Pinson also taught at East Rome
High School and at Manchester High School during his education
career.
Pinson understands the challenge
ahead and the opportunities that the new school will present
for students and the community. He
said,” I am extremely enthusiastic about the role the
College and Career Academy can play in the Greater Rome area
and for the young people in Floyd County Schools.” Pinson
added, “I understand we have a lot of work ahead and
I am looking forward to the new challenge.” Frank
Pinson will assume the position of CEO of the Floyd County
Schools College and Career Academy in January, 2008. Pinson
will also serve as the head of technical education programs
for Floyd County Schools.
The College and Career Academy is scheduled to open on August
1, 2008.
The charter schools has four major goals:
- Design a school that will develop and sustain a highly
skilled work-force for the community.
- Develop a program that will provide a seamless transition
between high school and post secondary training
- Meet the needs of business and industry and improve the
communities ability to attract new business and industry
and
- Impact the system's high school completion rate.
