The Coosa High School Academic Team is a first round winner
in the WSB Channel 2 High Q program. The Coosa team defeated
a strong North Oconee High School team Wednesday evening in
Atlanta. Luke Weeks, Jared Van Curen, Patrick Blankenship
and Kristin Allaire competed for the Eagles on the academic
television program hosted by Channel 2 Action News Sports Director
Chuck Dowdle. Jennifer Bailey, Devon Watson, and Ashley
Jones served as alternates for the contest. The educational
program, which began in 1986, is in its 22nd season on WSB.
The program is structured like a game show with students vying
to buzz in with the correct answer to questions on a wide range
of subjects including history, math, literature, science and
the arts. Questions also include topical news of the
day dealing with the currents events making headlines.
Coosa came from over 80 points behind to seize the lead by
answering the question: What is the world’s most
densely populated island country? Coosa provided the
correct answer of Singapore. The Coosa High Academic
team has won 15 of the last 19 Floyd County Academic Decathlons
and has won four High Q 1st round games and one 2nd round game.
The team is coached by Randy Vice and Bill Daughtry.
High Q is taped in advanced and aired on Sunday mornings at
7:00 a.m. The Coosa High first round win will air on
December 9, 2007. The second round match between Coosa
and the winner of the Lovett School and Pace Academy contest
