Two Floyd County school bus drivers have placed in the state Georgia School Bus Safety Road-e-o. Connie Beatenbough, and Gail Lanier, bus drivers for the Pepperell area, placed third and fourth respectively in the Georgia School Bus Safety Road-e-o. The state competition, featuring 45 of the best school bus drivers in Georgia, was held June 6 and 7 in Forsyth, Georgia.
Beatenbough garnered 603 of a possible 700 points to finish third in the competition. She was the state champion in 2006. Lanier finished with 595 points in the competition. She was the Floyd County Schools champion in a competition held earlier in the spring.
The Georgia Bus Safety Road-e-o consists of an obstacle course, a written test and a pre-trip inspection test. On the obstacle course, drivers are asked to drive a bus through a series of obstacles designed to simulate difficult driving situations that might be faced on the road. The drivers are awarded points for successfully completing each section of the course.
Floyd County drivers have traditionally performed at high levels in driving competitions and have won the Georgia and International competitions. Connie Beatenbough has participated in the last two International Road-e-o competitions which feature the best bus drivers from the United States and Canada. |
