Alex Cantrell and John Knight, students at Model Middle School, have been selected to attend the 2007 Eagle Science Camp at Georgia Southern University.  Students selected for the science camp must be in the 7th or 8th grade, have an A in science and math and have two teacher recommendations. There are two sessions during the summer and each session will only accept 24 students.  Successful candidates will have demonstrated aptitude in their science and math class work, be enthusiastic laboratory participants, be self-directed and independent workers, and be motivated to investigate a university science education.

The camp will feature Seven 3-hour exploratory labs (Geology, Chemistry, Ecology, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, and Computers) taught by PhD level professors, in GSU’s modern labs and in the field.  Participants will live in GSU dormitories, eat at the student cafeteria, and will be guided by GSU student counselors.  Participants will also enjoy traditional camp activities, such as swimming and crafts, and take part in creative evening fun including a Chemistry Lab Slime Party.

Camp concludes with a scientific poster conference.  The students will prepare digital video presentations and poster displays using data and photos generated during the week’s laboratory adventures.  Photos of the camp are posted on the Eagle Science Camp website at www.georgiasouthern.edu.  Example digital video presentations will be posted on the site for the next academic year.

The dates for this year's sessions are: first session will be held May 29 - June 2, second session, June 5 - 9.  The Eagle Science Camp is sponsored by The Georgia Southern University Museum and Planters Telephone Foundation, Newington, GA.
