Casey Earl Underhill, a student at Armuchee High School, and Leigha Burnham, a teacher at Armuchee High, were the brightest stars from Floyd County Schools at the STAR Student and Teacher recognition luncheon held Friday, March 9, 2007. Underhill was selected as the top student in Floyd County and he selected Burnham as his STAR teacher. Leigha Burnham was also selected the Floyd County Schools "Teacher of the Year" earlier in the school year.
The top students from all area high schools, and the teachers they selected as their STAR teachers, were honored with other local winners from Rome City Schools and Darlington by the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce at an Exchange Club luncheon at the Palladium. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) awards were presented by Al Hodge, CEO of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Georgia Board of Education.

- Armuchee High School : Casey Earl Underhill, selected as the Floyd County Schools STAR student.
- Coosa High School : Eric Lewis Angel
