Georgia joined with 47 other states and territories to develop a set of core standards for K-12 in English language arts and mathematics. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace.

This area is a continuous work in progress.

Weekly Update

This week in CCGPS there will be webinars for ELA teachers in grades 4-12. I have provided direct links (located in the chart below) for you to share with your staff as needed. These will be the last webinars of the year (as far as is known today). Should anything change, I will quickly provide that information for you.

In the area of mathematics, teachers should be addressing transition standards for the upcoming year. I have previously attached a PDF of these transition standards. I am re-sending them today and have them posted on our FCS CCGPS resource area http://www.floydboe.net/Links/teachers/TR-CommonCore.cfm. I also have a smartboard file of this document if you prefer that platform.

	PARCC is a 24-state consortium working together to develop next-generation K-12 assessments in English and Math. This website is hosted by Pearson Publishing, who will be providing questions for the PARCC assessment in 2014. This website hosts several webinars that provide insight into the assessment and implementation of the Common Core State Standards. View the PARCC Videos.

	Georgia Virtual Learning School Georgia Virtual Learning is your headquarters for online education from the Georgia Department of Education. Stay tuned as the program grows into your portal to various learning resources delivered by the GaDOE. Currently, you can find links to Georgia Virtual School, the online learning opportunity for 9-12 students, Georgia Credit Recovery, the teacher-less online location for students who need to recover credit from an unsuccessful course, and the GaDOE Express program which helps teachers and students with information related to the science and social studies Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGTs).

	Tools for the Common Core Standards News about tools that are being developed to support implementation of the Common Core State Standards
	The Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics The GADOE in conjunction the the Georgia Council for Teachers of Mathematics (GCTM) will offer a 3 day Math Academies throughout the state during the summer. View schedule and registration information for Summer Math Academies at http://www.gctm.org/academies_2012. GCTM is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (www.NCTM.org). The organization is made up of classroom teachers from pre-school to graduate school in addition to non-teachers who just share an interest in mathematics education in the state of Georgia.
	Southwest Educational Development Laboratory SEDL is designing videos for Common Core Standards in Mathematics to support schools and teachers in the implementation of CCSS. Each video is an audiovisual resource that focuses on one specific standard and usually includes examples/illustrations geared to enhancing understanding. The intent of each content-focused video is to clarify the meaning of the individual standard rather than to be a guide on how to teach each standard although the examples can be adapted for instructional use. 	Inside Mathematics Inside Mathematics, a professional resource for educators passionate about improving students' mathematics learning and performance. This site features classroom examples of innovative teaching methods and insights into student learning, tools for mathematics instruction that teachers can use immediately, and video tours of the ideas and materials on the site.
	The Mathematics Common Core Coalition The Mathematics Common Core Coalition works to provide expertise and advice on issues related to the effective implementation of the Common Core State Standards for School Mathematics (CCSSM). This site includes material or links to information and resources that the organizations of the coalition are providing to the public and the education community about the CCSSM.
