Floyd County Schools' Special Education Department provides educational services to students with varying disabilities. We serve students between the ages of 3 and 21. Special education services are provided within the local school system, in the community, in local day care centers, and some in-home services are also provided. As of December 1, 2009, we were providing individualized educational services to approximately 1,600 students. We currently employ approximately 150 teachers who instruct and assist students with disabilities to insure that they receive appropriate instructional strategies and accommodations/modifications to allow them the opportunity to reach their greatest potential in their educational setting. Additionally, we employ approximately 102 paraprofessionals who assist students with transitions, day-to-day activities, as well as providing instructional support to students within regular and special education classrooms.

Floyd County Schools' Special Education Department provides numerous support services to students with disabilities. We provide contracted educational support services in the areas of occupational therapy, physical therapy, communication, and autism. By working with "experts" in these various fields, we are able to provide a higher level of services to students with disabilities, as well as having these consultants who keep abreast of ever-changing information and strategies within their field of expertise.
