| As stated in the ESOL Program for English Language Learners
goals, the involvement of the parents of the English Language
Learner is a high priority. As per Title III funding guidelines
we will ensure that effective communication with parents takes
place.
The Floyd County Schools will support the following initiatives.
- The
Coordinator of the ESOL Program for English Language Learners
will ensure that there will be an interpreter as needed for
ELL parent meetings. This will assist parents with information
about schools, grading policies, attendance regulations,
and ways they can assist their children in the learning process.
- Programs for parents will include parental rights and responsibilities.
- Schools will create a welcoming atmosphere that will encourage parent participation.
- Principals will provide information to parents regarding school events and issues to their children in a language they can understand.
ESOL teachers:
- send home a parent notification letter informing parents of the child's receiving ESOL services or discontinuation of services.
- arrange at least two annual meetings with parents of ELL
students, including the Parent-Teacher conferences on Early
Release Days. (Interpreters
will be provided by the district as needed)
- conduct an annual orientation for parents regarding the Georgia Standards and assessment.
- notify and encourage parents to attend the school's annual Open House and the ESOL Parents' meetings.
- call or send home notes regarding good news and/or concerns.
- facilitate school-home communication.
