The SAT is a independent, standardized measure of a student's
college readiness administered by the College Board. The
SAT measures critical thinking, reasoning, and writing skills
that students have developed over time. These are skills
they need to be successful academically.
The SAT consists of 10 sections, including a 25-minute essay,
each timed separately. Results are reported in categories
of verbal, math and writing. Each section of the SAT
is scored on a scale of 200-800.
The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors.
It is administered seven times a year in the U.S., Puerto
Rico and U.S. Territories, and six times a year overseas. For
additional information about testing schedules and locations,
visit the College Board web site. Floyd County Schools
provides SAT prep classes at no charge during Intersession
periods (see school calendar for Intersession periods.) The
Georgia Department of Education also provides online SAT
prep opportunities.
